Monza’s Hotel de la Ville could hardly occupy a more prominent position — it stands opposite the Villa Reale, the 18th-century palace that was once home to the House of Savoy. By comparison, the Hotel de la Ville feels intimate, almost residential, and it is, by luxury-hotel standards. It’s belonged to the same family for generations, and while it’s been continually updated over the years, its style remains classic, with artworks and furnishings that reach as far back as the 17th century.
In fact its interiors are directly inspired by the old summer residence of the House of Savoy. In classic European style the rooms range from cozy-but-luxe single rooms to extravagant two-bedroom suites. And despite the urban setting, the hotel’s interior atmosphere is suggestive of a rural escape. The restaurant, Derby Grille, maintains an English interior style, even as the cuisine is decidedly Italian; it’s joined by the swanky Derby Bar.
