You don’t have to get very far outside of Reykjavík to find yourself in some truly wild landscapes; Hotel Búðir finds itself on the south coast of the Snæfellesnes Peninsula, two hours from the capital, surrounded by glaciers, lava fields, mountain peaks, and the oldest church in Iceland. Its rooms are contemporary but fairly traditional in inspiration, with the exception of the modernist-inspired master suite; all are comfortable, and the latter borders on extravagance. Just about any outdoor adventure you can imagine can be mounted from here, and the restaurant and bar are focused on the finest local flavors.
