Journey’s small scale certainly helps. With just 22 rooms, it’s not the sort of place where you can get lost in the shuffle. The smallest room is large enough to contain a king bed, while the suites and cottages are an upgrade in both size and comfort. The saltwater pool is a charmer, and the lobby lounge serves drinks in front of the fireplace, while the great lawn features outdoor yoga, bocce, and similar low-key diversions. It’s a fine blend: high-end but not ostentatious, full of character but never precious — the Hamptons could use more hotels like this.
