Modern Design & Happening
When the original Hoxton opened over a decade ago, Shoreditch was without question the place to be. But in the intervening years, South London has improved itself almost beyond recognition — which made a south-of-the-river installment all but inevitable as this hip-hotel mini-chan continues to expand. The Hoxton, Southwark is the group’s third hotel in London, and the house style — a post-industrial salvage aesthetic, warmed by organic materials and eclectic décor — is a natural fit for the formerly industrial neighborhood, a short walk from Tate Modern and not much farther from Borough Market.

In the rooms you’ll find warehouse-style windows that admit plentiful sunlight, and though they vary widely in square footage — from Shoebox and Snug all the way up to Biggy — they’re all comfortable, and little luxuries like handmade mattresses and walk-in rain showers go a long way. And the public spaces, always vital, are at perhaps their most impressive here. Albie, the all-day Italian-inspired restaurant, might ordinarily be enough, but it’s joined by the swanky Mezzanine Bar as well as something spectacular: Seabird, the rooftop restaurant, with London’s most expansive oyster selection and a panoramic view over the city and the Thames.
