Villa Monty Banks

Via Sorrivoli 601, Cesena, Italy
11 Rooms
Modern Design & Quiet
The name is an unusual one for Emilia-Romagna, a fact that reflects an unusual history. This 1930s villa was purchased in the ’40s by the silent film star Monty Banks — born Mario Bianchi — and much like Mr. Bianchi’s pseudonym, it shows a pronounced English influence. Lately it’s been restored with an eye towards historical preservation, but it’s not a strict thirties period piece; in the modern Italian style its century-old architecture contrasts vibrantly with clean contemporary decoration and tasteful high-tech interventions.

Rooms range from generously sized to quite large indeed, and come with plush comforts like marble bathrooms and a menu of pillow options. There’s also plenty of space for a full-featured spa by the local company EFFE. And the villa’s estate includes a working farm, whose olives, fruits and vegetables are put to excellent use at L’Agrosteria, Villa Monty Banks’ restaurant.
