H10 Casa Mimosa

We’re sure the Barcelona-based H10 hotel group takes equal care with all its destinations; still, the sheer attractiveness of the H10 Casa Mimosa is worth remarking upon. It’s set in the Eixample, just off the Passeig de Gràcia, on the same block as Antoni Gaudí’s extraordinary Casa Milà, also known as La Pedrera. And while it’s perhaps less unusual than its famous neighbor, it’s a building of distinction nevertheless; an early Modernist structure from the end of the 19th century, given a thoughtful makeover by its current custodians on its way to becoming a fine 48-room boutique hotel.

The rooms themselves are handsome, with a sort of confident restraint in their visual style, combining modernist simplicity with some well-chosen ornaments, including monochrome photographs of the hotel building in its earlier incarnation — the exception is the Suite Condal, with its original coffered ceiling. Functionally, they’re all as modern as can be, with 48-inch smart TVs and updated bathrooms stocked with Rituals products. There’s a lobby bar and a rooftop terrace with a plunge pool, and the intriguingly punctuated El Til•ler restaurant takes you from breakfast on through to a Barcelona-style late-night dinner, all in an airy, modern space.
