Le Moulin, Lourmarin, a Beaumier hotel

Rue du Temple, Lourmarin, France
35 Rooms
Modern Design & Lively
Though its name may be a bit of a tongue-twister, Le Moulin de Lourmarin is a perfectly straightforward hospitality proposition: an 18th-century oil mill in a charming Provençal village, later evolved into a charming little lodging that counted Albert Camus among its guests — and lately, under the direction of the Beaumier group, a modern, intimate, and memorable luxury boutique hotel.

The building is as classic as they come, and retains many of its original architectural features; its 25 rooms and suites are furnished in warm, organic materials and decorated in sunny Provençal colors. And the atmosphere is pure country-house cool, from its library of art books dedicated to the painters of Provence to the lovely little pool in the house’s garden.

Le Moulin’s restaurant serves locally sourced regional fare in an atmospheric indoor dining room and outside on the patio, while the bar is a lively setting for an apéritif or a nightcap. Nor are you isolated, by any means — the village of Lourmarin has plenty to recommend it, and a reasonably short drive takes anywhere from the mountains to Marseille.
