Modern Design & Quiet
For a certain kind of fashion-minded person there could be no location more desirable for a pied-à-terre than this Milanese neighborhood in between the Quadrilatero d’Oro and the Scala theatre. Crossing Manzoni occupies two floors of a neoclassical palazzo on a street that’s long been home to prominent local families, including that of the writer Alessandro Manzoni. Inside are a mere six units, each one stylistically distinct from the others, each one decked out in classic designer furniture, unique modern artworks, and subtly luxe comforts.
This is not quite a hotel; the concierge is on duty from 8:30 in the morning to 6:30 in the evening, though reachable by phone outside of those hours. Hotel amenities like room service or a restaurant or gym are beyond Crossing Manzoni’s ambition. But the apartments are comfortable and well equipped, and share a lounge with a kitchenette, supplied with coffee, drinks, and pastries on a complimentary basis.
Beyond that you’re at the mercy of the streets of central Milan — which is why you’re here in the first place. Some guests are keen to explore on their own, while others rely on the concierge; either way, you’re left to interact with the city like a local, rather than a tourist.
