One MICHELIN Key · A very special stay
You don’t have to be a hospitality-industry analyst to predict that the Ironworks Hotel, in Indianapolis, Indiana, takes its aesthetic inspiration from the industrial heyday of the Midwest. And though it’s a new build, it’s meant to evoke the kind of heavy industry that’s implied by the name. This means a heavy brick facade broken up by full-height shop windows — and inside, it means visible infrastructure, exposed piping, and what feels like acres of heavily weathered salvaged barn wood.

The rooms carry on in a similar vein, their modern simplicity warmed by the rich textures of age-worn materials like brick, leather, and brass. They’re all spacious, owing to the generous floor plan of this newly-built structure, and in terms of creature comforts they’re state-of-the-art, with 60-inch televisions and oversized bathrooms.

And it’s safe to say that Provision, the restaurant and bar, doesn’t shy away from the whole American-heartland vibe. Instead it leans in, with hearty fare — heavy on steaks and chops — and craft beers. Meanwhile, lighter fare is available in Rize, the breakfast and lunch restaurant, and Blue Sushi Sake Grill. Safe to say Ironworks is a worthy alternative to the chain hotels that still dominate Indy, and one of the most memorable lodgings in town.
