The InterContinental Hotels Group is one of the biggest names in luxury hospitality, and encompasses everything from typically lavish city-center luxury hotels to one-of-a-kind resorts in relatively far-flung locales. The InterContinental Kunming is, strangely enough, a bit of both — it’s set within the limits of the city of Kunming itself, but rather than some city-center skyscraper, it finds itself in the quasi-rural lakeside district known as the Dianchi National Holiday Resort.
Its 536 rooms and suites enjoy views of the gardens, greenery, and waterways; their interiors, perhaps incongruously, are as contemporary as they come, decorated in a minimalist style that would look equally at home atop a 35-story hotel tower. Most of them are equipped with private balconies, and all of them are outfitted with the top-tier comforts that you can expect from any InterContinental hotel.
The spa and wellness center is a vast one, perfectly in proportion with this expansive resort. And the hotel’s dining and drinking venues range from international cuisine at the Butterfly Bar to Cantonese and Yunnan flavors at the Shang Tao Chinese Restaurant and a selection of Chinese, Japanese, and Mediterranean flavors at the Market.
