Arbois, in the French Jura, is home to a 17th-century mansion whose beautifully preserved structure is now home to a lovely little five-room chambre d’hôtes. La Closerie Les Capucines aims to retain as much of its private-home atmosphere as possible, and you’d have to say they’ve succeeded. The rooms are antique in their inspiration but possess the stylistic unity you expect of a contemporary boutique hotel; each one is decorated in a subtle tribute to a different element of the town’s natural surroundings. Its owners are well-connected in the wine world, and the hotel makes the most of these associations.

The building is historic and interesting. The common areas are inviting and very well done. The garden and pool areas are great. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful.
