Modern Design & Lively
Thanks to its location between the Caucasus Mountains and the Black Sea, Tbilisi was an important stop on the Silk Road. Only a couple of its many caravanserai — overnight lodgings for trade caravans — remain today, including one that houses the Tbilisi History Museum. The other, a regal red-brick building with a decorative Moorish facade in the heart of the old city, is home to Qarvasla Hotel.

The restored interiors are industrial-chic, the central courtyard transformed into a sleek lobby lounge with dramatically illuminated greenery, elegant keyhole archways, and opulent light installations suspended from the high ceilings. Moody monochromatic corridors lead to modern rooms with slate-gray carpeting and leather headboards; some have freestanding tubs and private wraparound balconies.

Live music sets the scene every night at the hotel’s sophisticated restaurant, where a blend of Georgian and European influences pays homage to the building’s position on the historic trade route.
