Cutting-Edge & Happening
Contrary to stereotype, most of Stockholm’s best hotels are grand 19th-century edifices. But in Hotel Six you’ll find the modernist paradise you’ve always expected from the Scandinavian boutique-hotel scene. At Six is part of the redevelopment of Brunkebergstorg Square, whose Sixties Brutalist style has come back around from retro curiosity to contemporary inspiration, and the interiors, by the London-based Universal Design Studio, show the way forward — as does the art collection, which is museum-quality, and rather than recede into the background, takes center stage, beginning with the Jaume Plensa statue that dominates the entry stair.
At Six’s rooms and suites are no less stylish, in their dark monochrome palette, and they feature some real luxuries, including high-end locally made bedding and bath products. Standard rooms are spacious, with desks and lounge seating, and by the time you’re in a suite you’re in what feels like acres of space. An elegant little drink cabinet replaces the ordinary minibar, and the views, thanks to the building’s elevation, are unusual for Stockholm. The Dining Room is the high-end modern-Scandinavian restaurant, and Blanche & Hierta is a coffee house, a wine bar, and a delicatessen all in one. Meanwhile the Cocktail Bar is the chic nightspot, while Hosoi is a more casual space with an emphasis on DJs and live music.
