In the historic heart of Quimper, along the banks of the Odet river, an old priory has been renovated and transformed into a cool and contemporary boutique hotel. Proprietors Catherine and Hervé Laurent have created a stylish escape, whose 11 rooms and 9 suites adapt historic architecture to modern purposes; the look is understated and tasteful in its sophistication. The spa is a dramatically lit space that retains the historic charm of the priory’s rough-hewn stone walls; a sunny dining room and outdoor terrace are the venues for breakfast, and after that you’re directed to the capable restaurateurs of Quimper’s Locmaria district.

The hotel building and our suite were very well designed except the difficult and dangerous bathroom. No shower screen and an irregular shape caused very wet and slippery floors. Hot water tap was loose and nearly falling off. The hot water was much too hot, greater than 70 degrees. The basin was not centred thereby limiting the bench space and would not hold water. The ventilation was completely inadequate. There is no laundry list or laundry bag. The laundry took 48 hours to return and had an unpleasant chemical smell. The hotel provided only a half litre of filtered water for 2 guests whilst 'strictly forbidding' guests from bringing in any drink or food supposedly for sanitary and health reasons. In reality they just wanted to sell there wine (very limited choice from and odd machine) and 'snacks' which were terribly unappealing microwave junk. The side lights in the bedroom were blindingly bright. Cheap uncomfortable rubber pillows. The Reception service was poor. No assistance with our several suitcases on arrival/departure. The hotel has no restaurant, but failed to mention that one of Quimper's best restaurants (Le Prieuré) is only a few steps away through a small unmarked passage. They had no knowledge of the restaurant which is literally across the street. One of the reception staff generally unhelpful and difficult. On a positive note, the building is beautiful, our spacious suite had a great balcony, good housekeeping, terrific breakfast and a comfortable bed.
