Modern Design & Lively
The Six Senses hotels and the Balearic island of Ibiza are both so highly regarded that the conjunction of the two more or less sells itself. It’s set at the end of a peninsula in the far north of the island, a setting which maximizes its private-island atmosphere, and not only is it as luxurious as you’d rightly expect from Six Senses, but it’s extraordinarily green as well, the first BREEAM-certified resort in the region — meaning not only that its construction and operation are low-impact, but that it works with local agencies to constantly improve its environment and its surrounding communities.
Its 20-acre estate contains some 116 rooms, suites, and townhouses, ranging from the simple-but-swanky Deluxe rooms, with their low-key contemporary décor and their partial sea views, to the Townhouses, spanning three, four, or five bedrooms, each with plentiful indoor and outdoor common space. Somewhere in the middle are the Cave Suites, which, though they’re not quite rock-hewn caves of the Cappadocian variety, are cut into the cliffside and offer an extraordinarily immersive experience.
As always, there’s a lavish and thoughtfully programmed spa and wellness center, as well as a list of experiences that ranges from yoga or stand-up paddling to scuba diving, cliff diving, and yacht tours. And the hotel’s restaurants and bars all come with an unusual, but welcome, point of view — the menus, by the Israeli chef Eyal Shani, all place local vegetables front and center, and source most of them from the hotel’s own farm.
