Modern Design & Quiet
Hall might not be as well known as Tyrol’s capital of Innsbruck, but it once played a major role as one of Austria's major trading sites, where salt was such big business that the town was even named after the Celtic word for it. Many of these deals were done at Hotel Kontor, a former trading house at the foot of Hall’s Old Town, now transformed into an eight-key hotel. It’s hard not to feel the history here, rooms still retain their mix of Gothic beamed ceilings, Baroque moldings, and centuries old stone walls, but the protected building has been sensitively updated with contemporary shades of grey and bespoke furnishings, including some crafted from the building’s old wooden slats. In the mornings owners Ursula and Marek serve up a seasonal and regional breakfast, including their own homemade products, in the lovely Baroque hall, which still sports its original wooden floor and decorative 18th century stucco ceiling.
