The 18th century La Maison Rabelais has lived various lives over the years, from being a boarding school in the 19th century to serving as a refuge for wounded soldiers during WWI. It has now entered a new chapter as a boutique hotel with 31 contemporary rooms, including a collection of studios with kitchenettes, and if you check into a duplex, also a private terrace and a Jacuzzi. The heated outdoor pool is open during the warmer months between May and October, but the sauna and massages treatments are available all year round. And while there is no restaurant, there is an all-day bar for coffee and evening drinks, and a grocery store for picking up local products for foodie souvenirs, or for picnics by the nearby Loire River.
