MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

Safe to say when this hotel opened its doors three centuries ago, this stretch of road between Delft and The Hague was a substantially less urban environment. And while this lovely antique building is now surrounded by modern buildings containing various high-tech concerns, to arrive at Savarin itself feels like something of a trip back in time.

That’s before you enter. Inside, this beautiful heritage building has been thoroughly renovated — not only brought up to modern five-star luxury-hotel standards, but decorated in a modern, minimalist style, with design furniture and saturated splashes of color set off against a few well-preserved historical details. And as luxurious as Savarin is, it contains only 35 rooms and suites, which preserves an air of uncommon tranquility.

It’s helped in this endeavor by the Cityspa Savarin, which includes an indoor pool, a hot tub, and various saunas and steam baths in addition to treatment and massage rooms. Adjacent to the spa is the Petit Café, for a light and healthful meal to accompany the spa’s restoration. More substantial is the Bistro L’Éntrée, a Parisian-style bistro; the crown jewel, however, is Restaurant Savarin, the hotel’s lavish fine-dining restaurant.
