Cap Karoso
Its modernist architecture sets a stylish tone, and it’s harmoniously contrasted with indigenous Sumbanese design and construction. In fact the whole operation seamlessly (and respectfully) blends an international sensibility and a strong contemporary design sense with local crafts, culture, and excursions. The studios and suites are chic and spacious, and the villas are downright palatial, and come complete with private pools.
The cooking is French, as is chef Antoine LeVacon, but it’s local as well — the hotel’s own farm supplies many of the ingredients. And the hotel’s smaller restaurant, Julang, is something special: an ever-evolving program that brings top French chefs to the island for a short residency and a series of chef’s table–style dinners.
