Contemporary Classic & Secluded
Before Crete became part of Greece, the island was Ottoman-ruled, its capital city home to a range of European embassies. Today, some historic buildings in Chania’s former diplomatic quarter have been converted into hotels, including Domus Blanc Boutique Hotel. It’s located in the elegant former residence of the French consul, with many of its best features — the neoclassical facade, original parquet flooring, high ceilings, exposed wooden beams, even the kitchen’s old wood-fired oven — carefully preserved.

Suites are sophisticated and light-filled with designer furnishings and large windows overlooking the garden. Attic rooms with skylights have a Parisian air, while suites with flower-framed terraces and outdoor hot tubs are particularly luxurious. The swimming pool is tucked into a stone-walled courtyard, and the airy ground-level bistro is open all day. Relaxing on a rosy velvet banquette, champagne coupe in hand, it’s easy to imagine the room’s former iteration as an aristocratic gathering spot.
