Contemporary Classic & Lively
Built in the 17th century and renovated in a Rococo style in the 18th, the building that is now Sapphire House Antwerp has long been a local icon — first as a private residence, confusingly named the Great Ruby, later as a bank headquarters. Today, of course, it’s an ornate and characterful luxury hotel, and a member of Marriott’s Autograph Collection, which specializes in exactly this sort of thing. The rooms and suites are suitably lavish, fittingly decorated in gemstone hues, and while there’s a certain amount of historical romance, the overall impression is decidedly modern. Don’t miss the two vegan restaurants by chef Bart De Pooter.
