Palace Hotel, a Luxury Collection Hotel, San Francisco
La descrizione di questo hotel al momento non è disponibile in italiano. When it first opened, in 1875, San Francisco’s Palace Hotel was the largest in the world. When the rebuilt Palace re-opened after the fire in 1909 it was the city’s most opulent. And when it opened yet again in 2015, after a massive renovation, it was a triumphant return to form for San Francisco’s longest-running luxury hotel. The newly updated rooms are once again worthy of the Palace’s grand Garden Court, whose lavish afternoon tea has always been a local fixture.
The location, adjacent to the Financial District, is ideal for an old-world luxury hotel, and the new rooms, by the Los Angeles–based Italian designer Beatrice Girelli, create a harmonious marriage of century-old architectural details and soothing modern luxury. The colors palette is subtle yet rich, and neither the high-tech amenities nor the retro-inspired contemporary design manage to break the genteel spell. (And if they’ve changed the floor plan at all, it doesn’t show in the square footage — these rooms are positively sprawling, by San Francisco standards.)
And by anyone’s standards the glass-roofed Garden Court is something special — it’s an opulent, ornate space, but it somehow doesn’t feel out of touch with contemporary tech-casual San Francisco. It may, however, inspire you to dress for dinner; whether that means haute couture or just your finest hooded sweatshirt is a matter for personal interpretation.
