Waking up in the Alest you might just forget for a moment that you’re not in London but in Mexico City’s upscale Polanco district. This 19-room luxury boutique hotel is as cosmopolitan as they come, with Italian herringbone hardwood floors, Le Labo bath products, and bathrooms clad in Carrara marble. Of course, it’s also intimately connected to its neighborhood, with locally made artworks and objects in the rooms and suites, and a bar and restaurant that present an opinionated take on the local traditions — the restaurant is by the well-known local chef Fernando Martínez Zavala, and the bar’s menu was crafted by Mexico City’s famed Limantour cocktail bar.
