It takes some humility for a hotel as architecturally distinguished as Woods at Sasan to use its name to honor its setting rather than itself. But site-specificity is one of the cardinal virtues of modern architecture, and Woods at Sasan’s structures use floor-to-ceiling windows and plentiful indoor-outdoor spaces to blend the interior experience with that of its location, an 8-acre mango orchard at the edge of Gujarat’s Sasan Gir National Park, home to Asia’s last remaining lions.
Its 38 units range from studios to pavilions to villas, each category gaining an extra level of space and privacy. But at all levels it’s an impressive place to stay, with warm contemporary interiors that play the perfect foil to the idyllic views. The restaurants and bar serve a variety of cuisines, from Gujarati to Italian, and the experiences take full advantage of the unique setting, encompassing anything from a village visit to a lion safari.
