Hotel Mousai
So what is it, exactly, that you’ll find in this child-free Mexican paradise? 74 sleek suites, a good Japanese restaurant, a rooftop infinity pool, an outdoor tennis court, multiple cocktail bars, a modern gym and spa, both with ocean views. Indeed, there are fabulous views from most of the rooms and terraces at Hotel Mousai: the boutique resort is perched high above the sea in Jalisco’s Garza Blanca Preserve. The decor is modern and seductive, perhaps more urban than you’d expect on the edge of a rainforest, but that’s Puerto Vallarta for you. The aesthetic works reasonably well, perhaps because there aren’t any five-year-olds climbing on the giant chess piece-shaped sculptures at the entrance or smearing their fingerprints all over the lobby’s glass and gold-plated surfaces.
There’s more glitz inside the suites, as well: gold-tiled bathtubs or plunge pools, large, glamorously illuminated mirrors, champagne on ice in silver engraved buckets. Amenities vary pretty widely across suite categories, but all feature terraces with hammocks, panoramic views over the water, ample lounge space furnished with plush jewel-toned sofas, and iPads that facilitate communication with the concierge (or your private butler, as the case may be) from the comfort of your king-sized bed. Many guests opt for the all-inclusive plan, but you can also go à la carte at the Hotel Mousai’s range of dining and drinking venues, which include a steakhouse with panoramic views of the bay, and of course, the glorious rooftop bar.
