Capella Taipei styles itself a “modern mansion,” and it’s not hard to see their point — the line between top-tier luxury hotel and luxe private residence is not always sharply focused. It helps that the designer is André Fu, the man responsible for a good share of the world’s swankiest hotels. Here the interiors are dazzling yet understated, and feel like spaces you could easily spend more than a few nights in.
The hotel occupies the upper floors of a high-rise in the tree-lined Songshan district, its 86 rooms offering panoramic views of Taipei and the surrounding hills. The six terrace suites are rare for the city: each comes with a private deck, a lap pool, and a skyline-facing jacuzzi.
Cultural programming is a standout, with daily experiences led by in-house “Culturists,” from local food tastings to guided neighborhood walks. And while there’s much in this food-obsessed city to tempt guests out for the night, Capella Taipei holds their interest with no fewer than five restaurants, ranging from Cantonese to omakase.
