Modernes Design und Abgeschieden
Lyonnais have gladly made the short trip to Charbonnières-les-Bains for generations — ever since the town’s priest discovered its iron-rich mineral springs in the late 18th century, prompting the construction of a spa resort. The old thermal baths are gone now, but the area’s most luxurious hotel still offers many of the same features that have traditionally drawn visitors from the big city: lush landscapes, peace and quiet, and relaxation by the water. Le Pavillon, part of the upscale Partouche Hotels collection, is set on a wooded estate beside the Domaine de Lacroix-Laval with its 16th-century château and English-style gardens. Giant trees frame the property, with greenery visible through every window, including from inside the gorgeous spa with its large indoor pool, Jacuzzi, and hammam.
Rooms and suites are decorated in shades of ivory and slate gray with colorful pops of deep turquoise and scarlet red. The look is understated and elegant, mixing Art Deco details, like geometric rugs and sleek canopy beds, with dark wood furnishings and bold black and white botanical wallpaper. Bathrooms have tubs and separate rainforest showers, and all rooms have private balconies or terraces overlooking the surrounding forest. The breakfast buffet is served in a light-filled dining room with massive wraparound windows revealing panoramic views of the woods, and a fireplace warms the cozy Le Bar du Pavillon. Across the street, the hotel’s restaurant, Le Grandioz, is located inside the Pasino Grand, considered one of France’s most beautiful casinos.
