"The oldest inn in the Palatinate" has been around since 1160 – as it says on the façade. Given that the hosts are dedicated, the atmosphere is charming, and the cuisine is top notch, it's no surprise that it's popular with many (regular) guests – and it's best to book ahead. The restaurant is divided into different rooms, which creates a certain intimacy. Historical and modern details have been successfully combined, with eye-catching features such as wonderful old tiled stoves and a brick fountain. Regional cuisine is served in the form of a lovely à la carte selection, with Palatinate classics sometimes getting a modern makeover. Appetising dishes include Grumbeersupp (hearty potato soup with pulled steamed dumplings) and Saumagen Roulette (a variation on the classic Palatinate stuffed pig's stomach). The selection of Palatinate wines is also appealing – and there is a wine bar too. The terrace in the inner courtyard is truly charming.
