MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View
Restaurant 1857 achieves its goal of being chic but by no means stuffy. A narrow street leads to this former coach house – an elegant combination of authenticity and contemporary class. Joke, the charismatic maître d', presides front of house; chef Joey conjures up creative and at times complex cuisine that is technically and visually impressive. A game sauce enhanced with hints of coffee, or dairy cow beef given depth of flavour by a meat jus seasoned with koji and fermented ingredients – diners will be swept along by this modern fusion of vegetables and global influences.
