The Hotel Chalet
There’s extra novelty, and a special reverence for history, in the guest rooms that are housed in renovated Pullman carriages. Some are Victorian, with original Tiffany Glass pendants and bentwood dining chairs, and others are midcentury modern, with custom wall coverings, plush sleeper sofas, and scalloped king beds. Designer Jenny Bukovec brings the same retro nostalgia to rooms in the main building, which feature wall-to-wall patterned carpeting, Italian linens, and rich wood paneling. With old-school wet bars and powder rooms, suites feel out of another era, save for the updated sound systems and Toto bathroom fixtures. French-Belgian dishes with an Appalachian twist are served at Elsie’s Daughter, the name a reference to the terminal’s architect, and outdoor highlights include a romantic courtyard bar and a pool surrounded by striped chaises.
