MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View
What was formerly a private house in Kamakura, the so-called “home of the Samurai,” is now Kamakura Cocon, a guest house that’s just about as small as they come: a mere two units in a style that mixes elements of European and traditional Japanese hospitality. Comforts include micro bubble baths, Airweave bedding, yukata robes, and espresso machines; each suite comes with a Japanese-style tatami room alongside Western-style living rooms. The restaurant is as intimate as you’d expect, just ten seats at a counter surrounding an open kitchen where the chef prepares Italian dishes from local ingredients.
