Hotel Indigo Dundee

The Hotel Indigo brand appears in a lot of places, but it’s perhaps most notable for the way it brings the high-design style that used to be exclusively found in major capitals to cities where boutique hotels were a little bit later to arrive. Hotel Indigo Dundee is a fine example: a renovation of a charming 1822 industrial building that, having made itself over with modernist furniture and contemporary art, now feels as fashionable as anything in Edinburgh, or London, or New York.

Rooms are visually sparse but enlivened by Pop-inspired pops of color and clever nods to local culture, and are furnished with subtle luxuries like Nespresso machines and lush local textiles. Plenty of original architectural detail remains, including some original brick ceilings, while in terms of function the spaces are as modern as can be, down to the subtly integrated electronics and the luxe tile-and-slate bathrooms.

Meanwhile the Indigo’s setting, a short walk from Dundee’s compact city center, lends a touch of tranquility without taking away from convenience. Daisy Tasker, the hotel’s restaurant, is a Scottish bistro, serving modern interpretations of local favorites alongside eclectic international influences, all in a stylish space that’s roughly one part minimalist and one part cozy.
