La Ferme de Georges

Do not adjust your browser: despite its thoroughly French name, La Ferme de Georges is indeed located in Brazil, in the fishing village of Atins ,on the edge of the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, whose otherworldly landscape of sand dunes dotted with small lagoons is just about as far as you can get from the verdant hills of rural France. La Ferme de Georges itself, however, is an oasis, a series of little lodges surrounded by greenery and palm trees.

They’re modern in plan, yet rustic in finish, with thatched roofs and rich dark wood, and with hand-crafted furnishings alongside contemporary design pieces. The best views come from the three-bedroom Tree Lodge, which is elevated above the surrounding foliage for a 360-degree panorama, but in all honesty there’s not a bad room in the house, and all are splendidly private yet wide open to their natural surroundings.

There’s plentiful outdoor lounge space as well, some of it attached to your lodge and some of it at the central Forum, an open-air lounge with hammocks, wi-fi, and reading material. A lovely outdoor restaurant serves produce from the hotel’s organic gardens alongside other locally sourced ingredients. And the list of activities, thanks to the setting, is a long one, from kite surfing and stand-up paddling to birdwatching, multi-day treks, and much more.
