Hotel Anahì

Just around a corner or two from the Piazza del Popolo, Boutique Hotel Anahì could hardly ask for a better setting — both for the convenience of a central location, right by the banks of the Tiber, and for the inimitable atmosphere of city life in central Rome. Like many of the best hotels in town, this one is tiny, a mere sixteen rooms, all of them decorated in a style that recalls the days when luminaries like Keats, Shelley, and Goethe lived nearby. Parquet floors, vivid patterned wallpapers, and lush fabrics happily coexist with up-to-date modern comforts; one suite comes with a lovely outdoor terrace.

In both the rooms and the public spaces, the Hotel Anahì is marked by that effortless stylishness that’s particular to Rome; Fellini was once a neighborhood resident as well, and is counted as one of the hotel’s inspirations. There’s not much in the way of service beyond breakfast, and what a breakfast it is: you’re welcomed at the splendid Liberty-style lounge of the neighboring Locarno Hotel for a proper five-star spread. And you’ll need it in preparation for a day on your feet; the Villa Borghese lies just on the other side of the Piazza del Popolo; cross the river in the other direction and you’re headed straight for the Vatican.
