Hôtel Chavanel
But make no mistake: an all-female team is responsible for everything you see here, from proprietor Sophie Charlet to architects Anne Peyroux and Emmanuelle Thisy. They make liberal use of the products of lacemaker Sophie Hallette — technically a company, not a person, but we’ll allow it, as nobody’s ever successfully made a case for sorting lace into the “masculine” camp.
Hôtel Chavanel’s 25 rooms and two suites are decidedly modern in aspect, notwithstanding some period architectural details. It’s no palace hotel, but the comforts are plentiful and the details well-chosen, and the plans make the most of their sometimes cozy spaces. It’s an inspired and inspiring experience from top to bottom — and while an all-organic breakfast is the extent of the hotel’s restaurant offering, this being Paris, it’s a burden the surrounding neighborhood is more than able to bear.
