There was a time when the Ritz-Carlton hotels were reliably the most old-fashioned luxury hotels in town, but that time is past — the Ritz-Carlton, Fukuoka, for example, occupies a very modern 24-story tower in the city center, and its interiors are as modern as its glass façade. They’re no less elegant for it, though — this is modern design at its most palatable, helped along by the expected package of top-shelf in-room luxuries and five-star hotel services, including a spa with a monumental indoor pool and a handful of swanky restaurants and bars.
