Mansion on Delaware Avenue
Built in the 1860s, the Mansion is an awesome example of Second Empire architecture. Its mansard roof, porticos and huge rounded windows hark back to a time when Buffalo was a profitable port and manufacturing center. A team of butlers stand ready to help you, including chauffeuring you around in Land Rovers, serving cocktails during the complimentary happy hour, and leaving a treat on your pillow every night. They’ll even arrange for an in-room massage or facial.
Local craftspeople provide much of the decorations, but don’t expect paint-by-numbers or portraits of anthropomorphized pets. Rather, the on-staff curator carefully selects art that both compliments the Mansion’s atmosphere and celebrates Buffalo as a creative center. Think signed and numbered mixed media, available for purchase.
Many bedrooms have fireplaces, and bathrooms feature Jacuzzi tubs and multihead showers. One is tempted to dine in the splendor of one’s room — though it might be more fun to order delivery and have the butlers plate and serve your entrées in the Billiards Salon.
