With Vietnamese travel ever in the ascendant, it’s time to get familiar with a few more destinations. One of them is Phu Quoc, the so-called Pearl Island of Asia, a Singapore-sized island that’s to the west of mainland Vietnam and just off the coast of Cambodia. Weighing in at a little over a hundred suites and villas, Salinda isn’t small, but it’s always sedate, thanks to its sheer spaciousness. At every level the accommodations are generously sized and eye-catchingly stylish, not to mention comfortable — king beds, rain showers, private balconies, the works.
The Q'isense Spa is a Thai import, while the hotel’s restaurant selection includes Italian and Indian options alongside its flagship Vietnamese restaurant. The service, not just at the table but throughout the resort, is held to an impressively high standard. And there’s an extraordinary amount to do beyond the resort’s grounds — there’s Phu Quoc National Park, there’s some astonishingly good diving and snorkeling in the surrounding waters, and the local Night Market is not to be missed.
