A utopia, strictly speaking, is a perfect yet imaginary place. The Myconian Utopia Resort, in contrast, is real — and it’s spectacular. One of a handful of luxury hotels belonging to a small homegrown chain, this particular Myconian, in the hills above Elia Beach, has the astonishing sea views that are more or less standard on this part of the island — and it’s particularly notable for its striking modern visual style.
For starters, this means colors beyond white and blue. Utopia’s décor makes liberal use of dark, dramatic contrasts, and the furnishings are nothing if not eclectic, some sleek and hyper-modern, others roughly fashioned from driftwood or other traditional materials. Deep soaking tubs and balconies or terraces with sea views are standard, and private jacuzzis or plunge pools enter the picture as you move up the range.
There are impressive views to be had from everywhere in the resort, but perhaps nowhere more impressive than the hillside infinity pool. Here the Pool Club is the casual all-day restaurant, while Pavilion is the fine-dining option, serving refined dishes made from seasonal Mediterranean ingredients. The spa is an eye-catching space with a long list of treatments, and a setting that more or less guarantees rejuvenation.
