Cap Vermell Grand Hotel

Mallorca might be an island paradise, but its’s hardly out-of-the-way: by boat or plane, it’s just a hop, skip, and a jump away from Barcelona. It’s a big island, one that brings in steady waves of tourists, and its hospitality scene has grown to meet demand, which is now enough to sustain a top-flight luxury resort like the Cap Vermell Grand Hotel.

The rooms are impressive in every dimension; the bathrooms are spacious and light-filled, lined with Carrara marble, stocked with products by Bottega Veneta, outfitted with large tubs and televisions built right into the mirrors. Bedrooms feature Nespresso machines and Bose sound systems. And at this level, you don’t need to ask whether there will be a pool — there are two — or a great gym and spa. Cap Vermell has all of that, and then some.

True, it’s not right on the beach. The resort is laid out like a traditional hilltop island village, with low-lying buildings arranged around a central square. There’s gorgeous greenery and plenty of outdoor space for relaxing with a book or indulging in tapas al fresco. Indeed, there are multiple dining venues here, most notably Voro, with its two Michelin stars.

All of the hotel’s rooms and suites offer private terraces, but given the range of appealing public spaces — not to mention the natural attractions of the island itself — you might forget to go back to your room until the end of the night, when you’re tired from sun, sand, and sangria. Cap Vermell is located on a fairly remote stretch of coastline on the island’s east shore. That means that countless sandy coves and quaint villages are within an easy drive. No pressure to explore the island, though, if you’d rather lie by the pool. It’s safe to say you can appreciate the beauty of Mallorca from pretty much anywhere on the hotel grounds.
