Bairro Alto Hotel
This beautifully preserved historical structure has seen two substantial interior renovations at the hands of the same dream team of architects and designers, and its spaces incorporate the work of contemporary Portuguese artists, such as the sculptor Rui Chafes, who created the two cast-iron works in the main lobby. Guest rooms, as well, feature original photography and paintings. If price is no object and you can’t survive a vacation without a lion-claw bathtub, you might consider upgrading to a suite.
Just as inviting are the public spaces of the Bairro Alto, from the ground-floor patisserie to the bohemian-chic BAHR & Terrace, featuring panoramic views of the Tagus river. A quieter rooftop offers an even more elevated view, and the wellness center features a Susanne Kaufman spa.

Location and design were stunning. World-class service in a world-class city.
Our stay at Bairro Alto Hotel last week was lovely. A boutique hotel located close to almost everything - we could walk to most places we had planned to go to. The breakfast was nice - with a lot of variety. The staff was super friendly and greatly helpful. The concierge went out of their way and really made an effort for bookings, suggestions and advice which was much appreciated. Special mention for the concierge - Paulo, also Luis and Nanu and really everyone. We didn't come across anyone who wasn't smiling and helpful. Paulo even managed to get us a reservation at Belcanto, which is booked up months in advance. Their suggestions of all the other places were all wonderful too.
Very chic small hotel in an excellent location with superb service
Staff were excellent all round, the location is great, and the rooms were extremely comfortable.
