Contemporary Classic & Lively
Just outside one of Germany’s best-preserved medieval towns, the castle-like Meiser Spa Resort looks like a historic landmark in the Bavarian countryside. But unlike the stone towers and colorful gabled houses inside Dinkelsbühl’s city walls, this building has only been around for a few decades, its timber-framed facade and ornamental turrets a nod to the region’s rich architectural past. Its interiors feature traditional alpine elements, too, like exposed beams and stone fireplaces, but with a pared-down modern edge.
This is one of the largest resorts in southern Germany — mostly thanks to the hotel’s vast and continually expanding, state-of-the-art spa with indoor and outdoor pools — and it feels like it. Rooms are spacious and silent, and while some are contemporary in style, others take inspiration from a country house aesthetic with deep red carpeting, knotty pine walls, and plush sofas upholstered in plaid. All come with spa-quality bath towels and robes, and many have private balconies with nature views. Suites feature extras like free-standing tubs and cozy living rooms.
The sprawling wood-paneled restaurant serves an early breakfast, late-night cocktails, and everything in between, and a greenery-dotted open-air terrace, overlooking the pool area, is particularly inviting in warmer months.
