Contemporary Classic & Lively
Antonio Citterio and Patricia Viel are the sort of designers whose names come as an instant recommendation, sight unseen. Not that Bormio, in the Alpine region of far-northern Lombardy, is a tough sell — but the Eden Hotel Bormio’s contemporary re-interpretation of the alpine-lodge idiom is nothing short of spectacular. The rooms and suites are modern but sacrifice no warmth, and the comforts are first-rate. Eden Restaurant by Chef Giovanni Caracciolo is a consciously Modernist-inspired fine-dining restaurant — Jackson Pollock is an acknowledged influence — and the hotel’s proximity to ski runs, hiking trails, and vineyards makes it a year-round destination.
