Over the last few decades the Brazilian beach town of Praia da Pipa has undergone what is by now a familiar transformation: from sleepy fishing town to secret surf spot to hot international travel destination. And it’s typically only in this last phase that the town can support a hotel like this. Hotel Île de Pipa - MGallery is, as the last word in its name indicates, a member of Accor’s high-end collection of one-off luxury boutique–style hotels.
This means a bit of a French accent, sure, as well as some French comforts like the L’Occitane au Brésil Spa. For the most part, though, it’s the character of Praia da Pipa that shines through. The accommodations are crisp and contemporary, soothing but certainly not minimal — this is a unique flavor of tropical modernism, viewed through a Parisian lens and applied to coastal Brazil.
Though it’s just five minutes from Pipa Beach itself, it’s got its own artificial beach that lines its lagoon-style pool, as well as a more traditional swimming pool. By the poolside is a casual and light restaurant and bar, which is complemented by Umai, a more elaborate spot that mixes Brazilian and Japanese cuisines. And activities include multiple beach excursions as well as trail hiking and turtle-watching in the Pipa Ecological Sanctuary.
