Housed in a decorative red and white building in the design district of Santos, Hermitage Castelo Casa Chafariz is classically Portuguese in style. Despite careful renovations and luxurious upgrades inside, its five serviced apartments have an old-world air, their original dimensions and layouts intentionally preserved. The interiors blend elements of Scandinavian minimalism — white walls, sleek marble-lined kitchens, sophisticated lighting systems — with period details like quaint wooden shutters and exposed beams.
Each apartment comes with elegant living and dining spaces, and some have multiple bedrooms. Still, the location in one of Lisbon’s hippest neighborhoods may be the hotel’s greatest asset. Casa Chafariz takes its name from the adjacent Chafariz da Esperança, an 18th-century fountain that’s considered a Portuguese national monument, and the surrounding neighborhood, filled with cafés, galleries, and boutiques, is delightfully walkable and picturesque.
