The name REI comes from reimeiki, ‘a new beginning’. The décor is monotone, the food pairing is wine, the fare is modern Chinese. The familiar standards of Chinese dining are on the menu, including Sichuan-style bean curd, steamed chicken with spicy sauce and stir-fried shrimp in chilli sauce. The chef deftly matches home-style seasonings with seasonal ingredients. This is neighbourhood Chinese food refined with a distinctive inspiration, such as twice-cooked pork with spring cabbage, and sweet-and-sour pork.
