Neither on the beach, on the (relatively) busy streets of Palma, or on some isolated hilltop, Hotel Son Sant Jordi presents another version of Mallorcan life. It’s set in the rural town of Pollensa, on the island’s north side, and it’s made from a cluster of picturesque 17th-century townhouses surrounding a quiet garden with a lovely little pool.
Character is the name of the game here, and it shows through in the décor; the rooms are decorated in classic Balearic style, with a touch of contemporary design in the details. The garden-facing rooms are the most tranquil, but the street-view rooms are anything but hectic themselves — Pollensa isn’t exactly New York City. Twins, doubles, and junior suites comprise the bulk of the accommodations, while family suites, sleeping up to four, are provided in a separate building.
Indoor and outdoor lounging space is plentiful, and the restaurant — open three seasons — serves typical Mallorquina cuisine in a dining room that spills out into the gardens. From here you’re close by to mountain peaks, sandy beaches, and sundry other island attractions, including the capital, a mere 60 kilometers away — and never far from a bit of peace and quiet back in Pollensa.
