Traditional Elegance & Quiet
Two MICHELIN Keys · An exceptional stay
Irish luxury hotels don’t get much more lavish than Cashel Palace. This Palladian manor dates back to 1728, and became a hotel in 1959; it was a bona fide celebrity haunt during its days of glamour in the late 20th century. Today, after a thorough renovation by a new set of owners, it’s an aesthetic triumph: a historical hotel that does justice to its heritage, while also presenting a fresh look and a modern sensibility.
The town is best known for its medieval heritage site, the Rock of Cashel, whose stone buildings are visible from many points on Cashel Palace’s property. A few of the suites in the main house have views of the Rock; other units are divided between the more modern Garden Wing and some outlying buildings, including the Gate Lodge. And while the architecture necessarily differs a bit between the oldest and the newest buildings on the site, the style is consistent throughout.
A small spa and a pocket-sized pool see to guests’ on-site leisure needs, and there’s plenty of outdoor recreation to be had — the property’s gardens connect to the Bishops’ Walk, which allows direct access to the Rock of Cashel complex. The manor’s owners are in the equestrian business, and can arrange a ride on the nearby trails. And for dinner, there’s the MICHELIN-Starred Bishop’s Buttery, serving upscale modern Irish fare accompanied by an impressive wine program.
