The volcanic island of Salina, in the Aeolian Islands off the north coast of Sicily, shares some similarities with certain Greek islands, and the Principe di Salina, in all its whitewashed glory, is the Italian answer to the finest Cycladic escapes. With just twelve rooms it’s just about as intimate as can be, and its high hillside location makes for spectacularly far-ranging views. Facilities include a solarium and a lovely infinity pool, as well as a poolside bar serving everything from fresh juice to wood-fired pizza and happy hour wine and cocktails. For dinner, the hotel’s kitchen dishes up refined home-style fare.
