Collective Governors Island

Contemporary Classic & Lively
Safe to say there’s nothing else quite like it in New York City. Governors Island, of course, isn’t exactly typical of New York neighborhoods — set between Brooklyn and the Statue of Liberty, a short water-taxi ride from Pier 25 in Manhattan, it’s a city park that enjoys unparalleled views and an inimitable atmosphere, one that’s impressively pastoral given that you could swim to Brooklyn from here (in principle; don’t try it).
Collective Governors Island offers the sort of grown-up summer-camp experience you’d ordinarily drive to the Catskills to find, accompanied by live entertainment and cocktails on the Sunset Terrace. Tents feature air conditioning, en suite bathrooms, Frette robes, and high-end bath products, and the top-end Outlook Shelter is a cabin-like structure with an indoor soaking tub facing the Statue of Liberty.
Activities include mindfulness, meditation, and yoga sessions, as well as food and beverage classes ranging from wine tasting to lobster poaching and oyster shucking. Meanwhile, each morning, a buffet breakfast is served in the main tent — and dinner options range from a la carte seafood to a five-course tasting menu. And it’s not the only game in town — Governors Island has a few restaurants of its own, including a very fine oyster bar.

Stayed April 2024
The views are incredible, and the tents were surprisingly spacious and comfortable. The communication with the Collective Retreats team ahead of my arrival was helpful and very friendly, and they were flexible with me needing to move around my pickup time once on the island. I appreciated the pickup at the ferry, and the warm welcome.

Loved the views, morning yoga, tub in the outlook shelter and laid-back ambience. Thank you for your many ecological considerations: ample windows for cross-ventilation, no single-use plastics, electric golf carts for noise & carbon emission reduction, etc.
